Plant cryopreservation is useful for long term storage of clonal germplasm and endangered species. Clonally propagated crops which produce recalcitrant seeds cannot be easily conserved using conventional methods. Preservation plants in vitro limited to two years not ideal a very time. The need conserve plant genetic resources through techniques mitigate the effects climate change such as extinction certain species underestimated. Different methods including dehydration, programmed freezing, vitrification v cryo-plate are employed long-term different plants. These usually based on principle removal freezable water from tissues by physical or osmotic dehydration followed ultra-rapid freezing. There have been several advancements identification use cryoprotective agents, nonetheless, its toxicity remains challenge. To accelerate cryopreservation, there development global expertise. current practice conservation Biotechnology Laboratory Ghana slow growth media. Moving forward, work developing protocols preservation liquid nitrogen cryogenic refrigerators.
